Below is an example cover letter to Activision for the role of environmental artist for the Destiny universe.
Unit 9 - Progression
Below is a short showreel demonstrating some of the work I have done over the past year during the course. It includes some of the best work I have done in the year.
Personal Statement - Intentions For Employment & Progression
I intend to firstly continue onto the second year of Animation & Games Design and come out with an extended diploma. In terms of employment I intend to have a role in 3D modelling, more specially asset creation. I really enjoyed using Maya for 3D modelling over the past year and I particularly enjoyed units 6,7 and 8 which 3D modelling/asset creation was required. In the future I am interested in being employed in the area for either games or movies. My goal is to achieve an extended diploma in Animation & Games Design and continue onto university. The courses in university are slightly more diverse as Animation and Games design are separate courses. I have yet to decide what specific course I would like to pursue however as I mentioned earlier I want to continue 3D modelling/asset creation so I will pick a course that is also art focused like the diploma/extended diploma.
Industry / Job Research For Career Opportunities
I have done some research into the process of asset creation in games. As this is the specific area I am interested in pursuing I am looking into opportunities and work processes for 3D asset creation in games and movie. In games, any asset needs to be firstly conceptualized. Essentially creating a basic games asset by sketching it first. I already have experience of doing this form sketching my Zeppelin in Unit 8 before modelling it. The next step is actually spending time creating the asset within your chosen 3D software. This is obviously an important step. Then comes the texturing process, personally I struggled to some extent with texturing my Zeppelin in Unit 8, however good texturing simulate high-resolution details of the asset instead of a high poly count. Finally the last step involves simply importing those assets into your game engine.
One job opportunity I found was working as creating assets as an environmental artist for Activision, more specifically for the game Destiny. This involves creating natural and structural details for game environments. Below are the responsibilities and skills for this position. https://activision.referrals.selectminds.com/jobs/environment-artist-destiny-asset-creation-848
